Weekly Scripture Readings

In 61 A.D. the Apostle Paul is under house arrest in Rome for being a “troublemaker” because he would not stop telling people about Jesus.  Timothy, also a follower of Jesus, is with Paul.  Together, they write a thank you letter to a church in Philippi because they had sent a generous gift to Paul and had expressed deep concern for Paul.  Paul writes back, not with anxiety and worry, but with joy because the Gospel of Jesus Christ is spreading and Christians are boldly sharing the good news about Jesus with others.  So, Paul encourages the church in Philippi to follow Jesus’ example, become a servant, and shine like stars. You are invited to read the following Scripture verses from Philippians 2 and learn to live more like Jesus.

Monday:    Read Philippians 2:1-4.

Why would Paul use the example of Jesus to bring people in a church together?

Why are unity and valuing others above yourself so important in church?

Tuesday:  Read Philippians 2:5-11.

Why does Jesus come all the way “down the ladder” to become a servant?

How can I follow Jesus’ example today?

Wednesday:  Read Philippians 2:12-13.

How can I work out my salvation and also trust God to work in me?

How will I do this today?

Thursday:   Read Philippians 2:14-18.
