Christmas Greetings from the Metz's

Our most recent update from Cathie and Ken Metz
MERRY CHRISTMAS and a BLESSED NEW YEAR, Diane and Friends at Valley Grace!!

Many, many thanks for all your prayers and support this year!  I think we owe you some correspondence.  We’re in Lima for another two weeks of medical exams and app’ts for Cathie.  (Attached is our most recent prayer letter, in case some haven’t haven’t had a chance to read it.) She’s doing much better now with the medication.  They actually took her off one of them for a month to see how see does.  We’ll know later in Jan.  Then in six months they’ll wean her off the others and test her again.  Needless to say, we’ve had difficulty keeping up with Christmas cards and letter-writing.  Cathie’s last appt. was Dec. 23 and they’re a long way from “home”.  Now we have until Dec. 30 with no M.D. appt’s, and have a little vacation time to catch up.

MISSION NEWS: It’s exciting to see the Camp Eden Christian Daycare for abandoned women and children taking off in Cullpa Baja!  We’ll be moving right next door around Jan. 10 to help care for them.  Cathie can’t wait.  It will be so good for her, as she’s so gifted to minister to children and younger moms.  We’re thrilled, too, that the Mother-Wise and Men's Network programs got started this fall in Huancayo.  Mother-Wise, especially, is growing like wildfire in and around our area.  Our friend, Flor, will be teaching a class to the mothers of our project for abandoned and abused women and children, too.  She’s such a precious and gifted teacher-one of Cathie’s best friends.

Our builder, Martín, recently accepted the Lord in our living room, after months of sharing Christ with him.  Please just pray now for his family.  They don’t yet know the Lord.  They’ve had conflicts and his daughter suffers from serious depression.

FAMILY NEWS:  Luke Andrew was born to Ginnie and Dan on Nov.6, our third grand-child and really chunky.  Abigail is thrilled to be a big sister at 2-and-a-half!  We just saw them over Skype with the web-cam.

I’m doing much better now (Cathie).
Enjoying victory in Christ over epilepsy or whatever it may be! We visited the “White Mountains” with our son, Andrew, in Aug.  Here I am at 14,000 feet! (Ken is behind the camera.)

OTHER NEWS: We’ll be coming to the States in Feb. and March, at least.  First we’ll be in the Kansas City area for our Grace Covenant conference, then we’ll fly to visit East Coast supporters and see Ginnie, Dan, and our new grandson, Luke, in Knoxville, TN.  Sorry we won’t get to the West coast to see you this trip.

We hope you and your family have had a blessed and joyous Christmas and have an even better new year all the way through!

                Love in Christ,

                Cathie & Ken

P.S.  Please pray for Cathie’s complete recovery and our Transforming Love ministries.  They’ve grown in and around Huancayo and throughout much of Peru.  Other cities and towns are asking for “branch offices”, but funding has been very low since the recession hit.  Could you and your church pray and give whatever God might put on your hearts to help us finish this year well and continue our ministries into 2009.  At this point we need emergency funding, even to get home to see family and supporters, go to conference, and get Cathie’s health checked out. We find ourselves surrounded by a sea of need and we’re way behind financially.  Construction of our Rehab./Rescue Mission has been put on hold, and the women and children in our day-care/teaching program have nowhere else to turn.  The Lord is asking us to look for a additional $30,000 among about 100 contacts to do all that we can to provide food and temporary shelter and to restore families among the most needy in our city.  Thanks so much for prayerfully considering how you might help!

More love, C & K
